Dearly Departed and I go back a ways together. Dearly Departed was my 2nd show as the Theater Director at Cedar Shoals in the late 90’s. Since then, we have performed it twice more (once for each succeeding decade!). The time felt right to pull out one of my favorites one more time for the 2020’s. This situation comedy, set in the deep rural south around 1990, is hard not to love. The story revolves around the death of the family patriarch, Bud Sr. The antics that transpire as the family gathers to prepare for and attend his funeral are both specific and universal. Everyone can find something or someone to relate to in this tale of Life, Death, and Family Love.

This cast and crew have helped me fall in love with the show all over again. Watching the characters come to life through this generation of actors is gratifying. I am so proud of their efforts and proud of what they have learned and the skills they have developed through this experience.

Dearly Departed reminds us all not to take those we hold dearest for granted. We must take time to stop and really see them--to really listen to them. Sometimes we must stop and forgive them. But mostly we must stop and remember that through everything, through all of the struggles and conflicts and shortcomings, to LOVE them. To really, really love those we call family. You can take that as a challenge :) Enjoy the show!

I am very honored to have helped direct this show. Last Saturday, we took this show to participate in the GHSA One Act Play Competition at North Oconee High School. Just like schools play each other in sports, they also compete in theatre. I am beyond proud of all of the cast and crew for all of their hard work. I am very thankful for Mrs. Milsap to have given me the opportunity to assist her in directing this show. I hope you enjoy the show!
