Director's Note:
What happens when you create a musical about a meek, amateur botanist, a kind yet beat-up floral assistant, an overworked flower shop owner, an abusive and sadistic dentist, 3 urchins, and a very hungry plant? You get Little Shop Of Horrors! This show explores how uncontrollable human greed can grow by utilizing “Camp” and TONS of greenery. My directorial concept narratively focuses on how others in life may try to take advantage of the people we are, and sometimes our kindness. Throughout this show, you will see the urchins manipulate other characters as they move toward their own goal of world conquest…?
This concept pulls inspiration from Uncanny Valley content to convey an otherworldly appearance and deliver a message about our current world in a completely different way. While depicting the urchins differently yet still staying true to the themes of the source material, the message is clear: people need to know their own worth and the power they have. Don’t let others take advantage of you. No one is a tool for someone else’s benefits. YOU are strong. So don’t sit when you are mistreated and know that there is always someone out there who will love you unconditionally if you look hard enough. And please remember… Whatever you do…
DON’T FEED THE PLANTS
Please enjoy the show!
Special thanks you’s go out to
Jacob Ward for making these puppets and allowing us to use them, Miss Wendy Custer (Sunny’s Mom) for transportation of the puppets from Ohio to here and Dr. Matthew Lanning for giving us access to the Greenhouse for Publicity!
