Robert Harling made his directorial debut with "The Evening Star" for Paramount, which he also wrote for the screen based on Larry McMurty’s novel. "The Evening Star" reunited Shirley MacLaine and Jack Nicholson and co-stars Juliette Lewis, Bill Paxton, Scott Wolf, Miranda Richardson, and Marion Ross. "The Evening Star" is the continuation of one of the most beloved and acclaimed movies of our time, "Terms of Endearment." Before launching a successful stage and screenwriting career, Robert graduated from Tulane University School of Law, but instead of taking the bar exam, he opted to become an actor in New York. After years of productive work as an actor in voiceovers and commercials, Harling was inspired to write the highly acclaimed stage play STEEL MAGNOLIAS, which was based on events from his personal life. STEEL MAGNOLIAS continues to thrive in theatrical productions throughout the world. Immediately bridging a career from stage to screen, Harling adapted his original play into the popular film of the same title, which starred Sally Field, Julia Roberts, Shirley MacLaine, Olympia Dukakis, Dolly Parton, and Daryl Hannah. Over the years, Mr. Harling has become a much sought-after screenwriter: other credits, to name a few, include "Soapdish," which was based on Harling’s acting experience and starred Sally Field, Whoopi Goldberg, and Robert Downey Jr., and "FIRST WIVES CLUB" for Paramount, starring Bette Midler, Goldie Hawn, and Diane Keaton.

Meet the Company

Katherine Simmons

ANNELLE DUPUY-DESOTO
Katherine Simmons - ANNELLE DUPUY-DESOTO

Katherine is THRILLED to be a part of Shelby County Arts Council’s first community theatre production, especially as part of such a beautiful show. In the past, she has been seen as Hero in Much Ado About Nothing, CeCe Whitlow in The Christmas Queens, and Sharon Sharalike in Murder is a Fine Art. Katherine would like to dedicate her performance to her own Steel Magnolias: Melinda, Marilyn, Carolyn, Betty, and Amy. She would like to thank this incredible cast and crew for such a fun rehearsal process. Thanks to Dyllon for trusting her with Annelle. And thank YOU for supporting local theatre!

Lynleigh Lowery

SHELBY EATENTON-LATCHERIE
Lynleigh Lowery - SHELBY EATENTON-LATCHERIE

Lynleigh is a freshman majoring in Theatre at the University of Montevallo and aspires to be an actor. Lynleigh’s favorite productions she has been in are The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe playing as Mrs. Beaver and being Assistant Director in The Wizard of Oz at Shelby County High School.

Besides being an extra in a movie, Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling is the second project outside of school Lynleigh has been apart of!

Majorie Eubanks

M’LYNN EATENTON
Majorie Eubanks - M’LYNN EATENTON

Marjorie has been teaching theatre and choir for 20 plus years and currently teaches theatre at Shelby County High School right here in Columbiana. She has performed with theatre groups throughout the state of Alabama. Her most recent performance was with South City Theatre in “The Second to Last Chance Ladies Club” . Her favorite role is as the wife of her high-school sweetheart and the mother of 4 amazing kids! She feels so blessed to be playing this dream role with a dream cast and crew!

Angie Nash

CLAIREE BELCHER
Angie Nash - CLAIREE BELCHER

Angie Nash is thrilled to make her theatrical debut as Clairee in Steel Magnolias, her all-time favorite movie.

At 53, Angie decided it was finally time to check acting off her bucket list and step onto the stage. A lifelong lover of family, friends, her church family, and her community, Angie lives on Lay Lake in Wilsonville, Alabama, with her husband of 30 years, Chris Nash. She is the proud mother of Sara Catherine Pennington and Chip Nash, the delighted Birdie to granddaughters RJ and Avery, with a grandson on the way, and the blessed mother-in-law of Jeremiah Pennington. She is also a proud aunt to Molly Beth, Jon Michael, Caroline, Josie, Georgie, Charlie, Evan, Jessie, Collins, and Mitch and godmother to Addie, Grant and Xae.

Angie’s real-life steel magnolias are her mother, Sara Conn, and her copper penny sisters, Michele Faulkner, Ali Payne, and Beth Horton. As the oldest sister and self-proclaimed “most tarnished copper penny” of Four Copper Pennies in Columbiana, Angie has never been one to shy away from a little personality.

A member of Columbiana United Methodist Church, Angie treasures the people and connections that make her community feel like home. She cherishes her lifelong friendships and often listens to Kenny and Dolly’s “You Can’t Make Old Friends” in their honor. She also loves making new friends, and being part of this cast has been an opportunity of a lifetime, filled with fun, laughter, and new friendships. She loves hummingbirds and little kids more than she likes a lot of people—and believes life is always better with a little laughter, a lot of love, and good friends by your side.

Angie is grateful for the opportunity to bring a little Clairee to life and hopes this first time on stage won’t be her last!

Hannah Fellmeth

OUISER BOUDREAUX
Hannah Fellmeth - OUISER BOUDREAUX

Hannah grew up loving theatre. She had various acting rolls as a child and teenager which led her to major in communications with a theater emphasis in college. She played the roll of Betsy TenBoom in a production of The Hiding Place as well as Horatio in Hamlet. Her final college production was as Mrs. Cratchit in a Christmas Carol. Hannah was also able to direct several productions in college and then move into teaching speech and drama at a small Christian highschool in PA. While it has been awhile since she’s been in a production, Hannah is thrilled to play the role of Ouiser in Steel Magnolias.

Sasha Johns

UNDERSTUDY
Sasha Johns - UNDERSTUDY

Sasha Johns is so excited to finally be part of adult community theater after years of being just a theater parent. She has participated in storytelling events, like Birmingham’s Arc Stories, in years past, but having the chance to act, even as an understudy, has been a thrilling experience.

When she’s not trying to memorize the entire script for every single character over the age of forty, you can find her on Columbiana’s Main Street at her little flower shop, Amazing Flowers and Occasions where she will be poking flowers, watering plants, and dreaming of her next chance to be a part of the SCAC Players (or whatever we are naming this group).

Sasha had this to say about Steel Magnolias, "Steel Magnolias was a powerful film for me at the time it came out in the late eighties. It mirrored many events that were happening in my early adult years and now as a woman over fifty I identify with characters in some of same situations I sometimes find myself in today. It’s both timeless and eternally relevant, and I’m so happy to see it chosen for the first community theatre production."

Janna Benton-White

UNDERSTUDY
Janna Benton-White - UNDERSTUDY

Janna is deeply honored to have the opportunity to work alongside so much talent in her first production with SCAC, and remains pleasantly surprised that anyone let her in. Her most recent role was Inez Serrano in Jean-Paul Sartre’s No Exit at the University of North Alabama. Her proudest theatrical achievement, however, was playing the Stepmother in Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella—primarily because the looks of genuine terror on the faces of the children in the audience finally made her feel like she was doing something right.

Janna’s ultimate theatrical ambition is to portray fellow Jasper, Alabama native Tallulah Bankhead in Matthew Lombardo’s Looped. (This is not a subtle hint. It is, in fact, a professional development proposal.)

Offstage, Janna sold her soul to the commercial real estate industry to finance her dogs’ increasingly sophisticated cookie habit. The dogs, who have yet to recognize the sacrifices made on their behalf, do not support her recent theatrical endeavors. They have made their position clear.

Dyllon Johnson

Director
Dyllon Johnson - Director

Dyllon is proud to make his directorial debut with Steel Magnolias and even prouder to be part of the beginning of adult theatre at the Shelby County Arts Council. SCAC has been a meaningful part of Dyllon’s life in the community. He has taken pottery classes and workshops here and has had the joy of teaching crochet. He is excited to bring another one of his passions, theatre, to the SCAC stage.

Dyllon is immensely grateful to the incredibly talented cast and crew who have poured their time, creativity, energy, and heart into this production. He would also like to thank SCAC and everyone in the community who has supported this show and helped make it possible. It has been a privilege to watch this group come together and create something special.

More than anything, Dyllon hopes this production, and the adult theatre productions that follow, will give our community another place to gather, connect, laugh, cry, and celebrate one another. He would like to extend a special thank you to the strong women who have inspired him throughout his life and whose strength, love, humor, and resilience helped inspire his vision for this production.

Jerit Owens

Production Assistant
Jerit Owens - Production Assistant

Jerit is excited to dive into the world of theater for the first time ever as Production Assistant. Jerit enjoys assisting with set design and managing props. His two favorite shows are Little Shop of Horrors and Steel Magnolias. Jerit is a ceramic arts student at SCAC and plays brass in his spare time (trumpet & euphonium). He is married to Dyllon Johnson and they reside in Calera, AL with their three pets - Truvy, Coco, & Dolly.

A'Moray Abrams - Stage Manager

A'Moray Abrams is a junior in the Bachelor of Arts in Theatre with an Acting Concentration and an Arts Administration Minor at the University of Montevallo. Her recent engagements in management includes: Assistant Stage Manager for Disney's Dare to Dream Jr., Usher for Romeo and Juliet, Assistant House Management for Alice by Heart, and Prop Manager for Cabaret at the University of Montevallo. Acting roles she has performed include: Paulette in Legally Blonde Jr., Mother Superior in Sister Act Jr., Sarafina in Lion King Jr., Artist Woman in Haunted Carousel, and Madeline in Haunted Carousel at Calera High School.
