Director's Note
Welcome to Xanadu — a dazzling celebration of music, movement, imagination, and above all, joy.
At its heart, this show reminds us that joy is not frivolous; it is transformative. In a world that can often feel heavy and uncertain, Xanadu invites us to embrace laughter, creativity, connection, and the simple thrill of believing in something magical. From the first note to the final skate across the stage, this musical encourages us to lean fully into delight and to rediscover the freedom that comes from letting ourselves have fun.
Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1980s pop culture and roller disco, Xanadu bursts with neon energy, infectious music, and unapologetic theatricality. The era’s bold colors, electric sound, and larger-than-life style create a world where fantasy and reality collide in the most exhilarating way possible. The roller disco becomes more than just a setting — it becomes a symbol of escapism, self-expression, and community. This production embraces the playful spirit of the 1980s while honoring the timeless desire to dance, dream, and celebrate together.
Beneath all the glitter and comedy lies another deeply resonant theme: the pursuit of passion and art. Sonny’s journey reminds us that creating art requires courage. To dream boldly, to make something meaningful, and to pursue what sets your soul on fire often means risking failure, vulnerability, and heartbreak. Yet Xanadu argues that the pursuit itself is worthwhile. Art has the power to inspire, heal, unite, and transform both the creator and the audience.
This production would not have been possible without the extraordinary dedication of our cast, crew, musicians, designers, staff, and volunteers. Their talent, resilience, and heart have filled this process with creativity and collaboration, and I am endlessly grateful for each of them.
Thank you for joining us tonight. We hope Xanadu leaves you smiling, laughing, singing along, and perhaps even believing a little more fiercely in the power of joy, passion, and imagination.
Enjoy the show!
Warmly,
Quae Simpson
